What would happen if a band from Manchester uprooted and based themselves in Berlin? The result would be the fantastic ‘The Underground Youth’s new single 'I Thought I Understood'. It is a moody yet uplifting track that shines the light on the band's skillful blend of post-punk and new wave.
The vocals on the track are reminiscent of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, with their haunting and melancholic tone adding an extra layer of depth to the music. The jangling guitars and driving bassline create a hypnotic rhythm that draws you in and will keeps you hooked throughout the song.
‘I Thought I Understood' is an infectious preview of what's to come on The Underground Youth's upcoming album. With a string of live shows on the horizon, including appearances at Wide Awake and Manchester Psych Fest, it's clear that The Underground Youth is a band on the rise, and I certainly will be eagerly anticipating the release of their new album on August 18.
