How did you get the name ‘Chuck’?
●アートスクールに通っていたころつけられたニックネームです。アニメのキャラクターに似てるという理由でつけられました。ただ…似てるのはそのキャラクターの服装だけだったけれどね(オーバーオールを着ているキャラクターだった)
これ男の子の名前なのは知っているよ。
Was Dead Bambies your first band?
●最初ではありません。しかしそれまでやっていたバンドは友人のパーティーで余興として演奏したりするぐらいでした。なので本格的な活動を始めたという意味では初めてだね。
●This is not my first time to play in a band. However, until then, the band I was playing was just playing at friend's parties as a sideshow. So it's the first time I've started full-scale activities.
How long have Dead Bambies been together? How did they form?
●デッドバンビーズは2000年に結成されました。ベースのビンタとは古い友人で、別なバンドで一緒にプレイしたことがあります。その後、そのバンドよりもっとうるさいバンドがやりたいねと意気投合しデッドバンビーズを始めました。それからずっと一緒にやっています。ドラムのゆーきゃんは2014年から加入しました。
●Dead Bambies was formed in 2000. I'm an old friend of Binta, the bassist, and we played together in a different band. After that, we decided that we wanted to make a band that was louder than that band, so we started Dead Bambies. We've been working together ever since. Drummer Yu-kyan joined the band in 2014.
Tokyo live house are mostly’ pay to play’ Could you explain the method of getting a gig in Tokyo?
●私達も最初はお金を払っていました。しばらくしてプレイの質が上がったと感じたのでライブハウスと交渉し、ノルマをなくしてもらいました。自分達のバンドの質を上げていけば、ライブハウス側からノルマがなくても出て欲しいと言われるようになると思っています。
●We also paid at first. After a while, I felt that the quality our playing had improved, so I negotiated with live houses and got rid of the quota. When we raised the quality of our band, I think that the live house side want us to perform even if we don't have a quota.
It is very hard work and often frustrating to be an indie band in Tokyo. How have you managed to keep going with such enthusiasm?
●常に新しいチャレンジをしていると熱意は薄れないし、フレッシュな気持ちでいられると感じています。それは私達の曲作りに関係があると思います。ベースのビンタが骨組みを作り私がメロディを考え３人で編曲する。シンガーソングライターが1人で作りバンドメンバーに共有するのではなく、3人で考え3人で答えを出すので自分達でも予想のできない曲ができたりします。そこが最高に楽しくテンションがあがる瞬間！それを味わうために続けているといっても過言ではないと思います。
●I feel that if I always take on new challenges, my enthusiasm will not fade and I will be able to keep myself fresh. I think it has something to do with our songwriting. Binta, the bassist, creates the framework, and I think of the melody, and the three of us arrange it. Rather than a singer-songwriter making a song by him/herself and sharing it with the band members, three people think and three people come up with an answer, so even we can come up with songs that we can't predict. It's the most fun and exciting moment! I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that I continue to enjoy it.
What is your favorite guitar in your collection?
●本当のお気に入りは最近手放してしまったんです。ルックスは最高だけど音がどうしてもバランスが悪くて。イタリアのビザールギターだった。可愛がってくれる人の手に渡ることを願っています。
レコーディングやライブで使うのはフェンダーのストラトキャスターです。とてもバランスのいいギターだなと思います。
If you could own any guitar in the world, what would you like to have? Why?
●ビートルズのリッケンバッカー！家宝にするね。使わない。いや、嘘、少し使うかも。
現実的に自分が使うのを前提にするならギブソンの古いビンテージのSGが欲しいと思っています。ビクスビーのアームがついたものがいい。理由は……私が持ってステージに立つととかっこいい気がするから！
Who are your musical influences?
●Newest model 、Beatles, Lou Reed, Steve Marriott. Brian Eno…たくさんいすぎて1人にはできないな！

What was the first record you ever bought?
●たしか小学生の時にアイドルの7インチを買ったよ
I think I bought an idol 7 inch when I was in elementary school.

●3枚?！すごく悩むね。
● 3 albums?! It bothers me a lot to choose.
