“Is that your 50p on the pool table?” If it is, stick it in the jukebox and play Decent Pubs and Murder from UK punk outfit MC16. The track is a blend of old school punk with more than a hint of The Ruts about it. Combine that with a contemporary twist of dark dirty bass, staccato top guitar and lyrics of wit and grit, and you get a song that stands out from the crowd.
MC16 hold the belief that music should push boundaries, provoke thought, provoke thought, and offer entertainment while staying true to the raw and authentic essence of punk rock. In 2023, their plan is to focus on live performances and have a lineup of gigs scheduled. They have previously supported several punk legends such as 999, Spear of Destiny, The Varukers, and Peter and The Test Tube Babies. MC16 have played at the Rebellion Festival thrice and is set to perform again this year at the Morecambe Punk Festival.
“Decent Pubs and Murder is not just about random words that make sense but also about the words themselves. In the song’s middle 8th there is the lyric ‘You can’t call them bouncers anymore’ which as bassist Quinn explains “So I am in my local pub sharing the news of a bouncer who has been done for manslaughter but the reaction I get is not...Geez! That is horrific! But instead I just get corrected ‘Oh you can’t call them bouncers anymore!”. As he goes onto say “It’s not so much a war OF words these days but a war ON words”
