I have long felt uneasy with the term pop-punk. It presents the image of a frivolous form of punk. ‘STFU‘ (shut the F***k up)
by Stockholm based artist FELIN certainly doesn’t fit that description. It’s an excellent example of punk done with a pop sensibility. Hard hitting lyrically with a gritty edge, but at the same time light, uplifting and affirming.
FELIN say about the song:
“I feel like, especially as a woman, we are taught to always be the bigger person. Like, we’re not supposed to get upset, angry or speak what’s on our mind. Well, I’m sick and tired of that. And I feel like with all the bullshit going on out there in the world, and people having opinions on things they don’t know the first thing about, spreading lies and hatred, I just feel like I don’t even want to argue with a person like that, I just want them to shut the fuck up.
To me this is a song about standing up for yourself, saying fuck you to all the douchebags out there who talk and talk but don’t know what the hell they’re talking about”.
