MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: Sandi Glowe - Where the Light Goes

Here's a classy release from Sandi Glowe in the form of Where the Light Goes, an intimate recording which casts gothic shadows over folk rock elements. The layers of vocals provide an impressive carrier to the gently interwoven instrumentation. Certainly a single worth repeat plays.

Who is Sandi Glowe? Sandi is a 25-year-old Italian singer, songwriter and guitarist. She recently spent several years in Manchester (UK), expanding her creative horizons and approaches to music, but has now returned to Rome to pursue a career in neuroscience research. However, she maintains her personal and musical connection with Manchester, returning there to record her music.

Speaking about Where the Light Goes, Sandi says: "Once again, I take the listener by the hand and lead them into a world of oxymorons, duality, hope and fear, light and darkness. The verses are scenarios inspired by my dreams: confusing, haunting, and full of characters that speak about my past and my deepest fears. The choruses represent an antithesis of the evoked despair of the verses, providing a message of hope and trust in following your own path, in following the light that will lead you in the right direction.

The song builds up to a moment of tension in the last chorus where the implied imagery suggests scenarios of battle, of fight or flight, and of mistrust. That comes to an end once again with the main message of the song: let us go where the light was, let us go back to the right track. I see music as something that adapts to different contexts, different windows in time, and different interpretations. The listener might relate because of their personal and individual journey, or they might see it as a portrait of the state of the world right now – either interpretation can be true.”

Where the Light Goes is released through the excellent Analogue Trash label.
