It is about time I recommended something a shade darker, so here's a jolly decent gothic tinged piece by Vlimmer called Platzwort. The general instrumentation, especially the use of synths, is completely on the money. Happily, unlike a lot of tunes of this genre, the vocal does not disappoint and sits well amongst all the sound textures. Joyous gloom is the name of the day and this is one single my friend, Mr Blu, would certainly enjoy.
About the track, Vlimmer explains: "The name, “Platzwort” is a neologism, it combines the German expressions for “reinplatzen” (Engl. “bursting in”) and “Wort” (Engl. “word”) in the sense that when speaking, words often suddenly “pop” in the head and confuse the speaking person. The song is about how unexpected thoughts and ideas can completely change the moment and even cause the opposite. So we as humans are kind of slaves of our heads."
Who is Vlimmer? Vlimmer is a Berlin-based one-man project by Alexander Leonard Donat. He combines post-punk, darkwave, industrial and shoegaze to create his version of dark atmospheric music that he describes as darkgaze or grimwave. Sounds good to me, have a listen.
