I keep coming back to this spoken word track by Glasgow's Stephen Durkan. It is called Prayer and there's a grim beauty about the simple tapestry of the words and sounds. It gives me that same feeling you get when you watch old, looped video footage of people you don't know. In time, you become more familiar with the characters and the story reveals itself, just ever so slightly. Or maybe your imagination starts filling in the details?
Prayer is just a short piece, with the wavering synth instrumentation creating a mesmerising canvas to the splashes of despairing monologue. It is well worth a listen and can be found on The Stories We Tell Ourselves About Ourselves EP.
