I have been around the block quite a bit with regards to great indie music, I was there when it emerged in the early 80s, so I can spot a decent indie tune fairly quickly. That's what happened within a few seconds of hearing Hadda Be's latest single Mercurial. It just sounds great coming out of the speakers, the rattling instrumentation starts, your ears prick up with expectation, then as soon as Amber Price's vocal starts you know it is a winner. There's a confident swagger to the sound, flourishes of sparkling guitar and a melodic hook to hang your hat on. I would say it has effortless class, which is hard to achieve and usually takes an incredible amount of effort.
Back in the day, I would have added this to the latest c90 mixtape for my old mini (no integrated stereo, just a boombox on the back seat), that's because it is a definite repeat player. Top marks Hadda Be, keep up the good work.
