Apparently Astyria's song Darkness Inside is having a TikTok moment, which is how the music world seems to work these days. I hope that doesn't mean some young, overly-painted adults are jumping around in leggings to this song, though that would be amusingly inappropriate.
Anyway, enough of my bemusement about modern life, let's talk about the song. Darkness Inside was originally part of Astyria's debut EP Alibis. The song itself is a rich production, combining her trademark elements of an almost folky vocal underbelly, supported by hard-hitting percussion and contemporary sounds. Amongst the misty soundscapes, there are really big, dramatic peaks. It is a thunderous piece; I reckon it would be a perfect end theme for one of those Scandi-noir thrillers. Enjoy!
